Our clients, gourmet cooks who love to entertain, downsized to an 80's bungalow on a beautiful ravine lot. The galley kitchen had never been renovated and the walls formed a barrier that prevented open views to the backyard from the living room. Our clients wanted an open kitchen that would serve as a gathering place for friends and family.
____The colour scheme of greys and creams, selected to create an ambiance of serenity, flows throughout the space. Contributing to this is the unique grey-taupe hue of the hardwood floors. The small eating area has been transformed into a functional, stylish component of the kitchen. A panel-integrated refrigerator/freezer plus steam oven, convection oven and warming drawer are joined by two pantries for additional food storage. Cabinetry, casings, baseboards, crown molding -- even the interior door -- all reflect contemporary styling. ____The star of this kitchen is the quartz countertop by the sink and on the peninsula -- a swirling pattern of greys, taupes and creams. The lighting plan offers ambient and task lighting at three levels:  a row of LED pot lights provides overall illumination; pendant fixtures over the peninsula deliver style as well as function; and the LED under-cabinet lights brighten the counter surface. ____Each drawer has a distinct function, such as this pot drawer with peg organizers for optimum storage. Our clients did not want a range hood over the induction cooktop to block the view of the window. Problem solved with a downdraft ventilation unit that provides safety as well as function. ____Every aspect of this renovation was designed and planned to meet our clients' wish list, necessitating a complete transformation of the kitchen. Our clients are thrilled with the end result -- functionality and style -- and look forward to many years of whipping up delectable meals while entertaining guests.
