|After five years of living
with a cramped and dark master ensuite, our clients gave us the
mandate to create a functional bathroom with lots of storage,
a vanity with two sinks, and a large walk-in shower. Above
all, they asked that it feel serene -- an escape from the demands
of working parents with young children.
____At the beginning of the design
process, my client fell in love with a beautiful porcelain tile
that mimicked the look of marble for the shower walls. From
the colours in the tile, a calm palette of soft greys was selected
for the floor tiles, walls, and cabinetry. Cambria quartz
for the countertop, full length mirror with 4 sconces and chrome
finishes for sparkle in the faucets and drawer pulls completed
the design. (Detail 01)
____The bathtub, which was
never used, was replaced with a large, glass enclosed walk-in
shower. Additional requirements were: bench with seat
made from the same quartz as the vanity countertop, niche for
holding shampoos and soaps and a rain showerhead as well as handheld
spray. (Detail 02)
____With the alteration
of the bathroom layout, room was available for 7 feet of storage,
across from the extended vanity. A row of drawers as well
as cupboard space provides our clients with much needed storage.
____Now that the renovation
is completed, my clients are thrilled with the results! In
fact, they told me that it's not just a fabulous transformation,
it's a 150% improvement over anything they could ever have envisioned.
